چکیده

The global-in-time existence of bounded weak solutions to a large class of physically relevant, strongly coupled parabolic systems exhibiting a formal gradient-flow structure is proved. The main feature of these systems is that the diffusion matrix may be generally neither symmetric nor positive semidefinite. The key idea is to employ a transformation of variables, determined by the entropy density, which is defined by the gradient-flow formulation. The transformation yields at the same time a positive semi-definite diffusion matrix, suitable gradient estimates as well as lower and/or upper bounds of the solutions. These bounds are a consequence of the transformation of variables and are obtained without the use of a maximum principle. Several classes of cross-diffusion systems are identified which can be solved by this technique. The systems are formally derived from continuous-time random walks on a lattice modeling, for instance, the motion of ions, cells, or fluid particles. The key conditions for this approach are identified and previous results in the literature are unified and generalized. New existence results are obtained for the population model with or without volume filling.

Regularity Analysis for Systems of Reaction-Diffusion Equations

This paper is devoted to the study of the regularity of solutions to some systems of Reaction–Diffusion equations. In particular, we show the global boundedness and regularity of the solutions in 1D and 2D, and we discuss the Hausdorff dimension of the set of singularities in higher dimensions. Our approach is inspired by De Giorgi’s method for elliptic regularity with rough coefficients. The p...

Entropy structure of a cross-diffusion Tumor-Growth model

The mechanical tumor-growth model of Jackson and Byrne is analyzed. The model consists of nonlinear parabolic cross-diffusion equations in one space dimension for the volume fractions of the tumor cells and the extracellular matrix (ECM). It describes tumor encapsulation influenced by a cell-induced pressure coefficient. The global-in-time existence of bounded weak solutions to the initial-boun...

Global regularity of solutions to systems of reaction-diffusion with Sub-Quadratic Growth in any dimension

This paper is devoted to the study of the regularity of solutions to some systems of reaction– diffusion equations, with reaction terms having a subquadratic growth. We show the global boundedness and regularity of solutions, without smallness assumptions, in any dimension N . The proof is based on blow-up techniques. The natural entropy of the system plays a crucial role in the analysis. It al...

In this paper, an observer based fuzzy adaptive controller (FAC) is designed fora class of large scale systems with non-canonical non-affine nonlinear subsystems. It isassumed that functions of the subsystems and the interactions among subsystems areunknown. By constructing a new class of state observer for each follower, the proposedconsensus control method solves the problem of unmeasured sta...
